Suffering from Tooth Pain? Book an Emergency Exam.
What is a toothache?
A toothache refers to pain around the teeth, jaws, or face and is usually the result of a dental condition.
Patients often describe a toothache as feeling like:
- A sudden and sharp pain
- Dull throbbing pain
- Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
- Pain when chewing
- Discomfort or bleeding when brushing or flossing
What Causes a Toothache?
It might be a number of things! Only a dentist can properly diagnose the source of tooth pain.
At New York General Dentistry, toothache diagnosis starts by conducting a thorough and gentle examination. From there, we may need to take digital x-rays to get the clearest look at what’s going on in your mouth.
Dr. Chern will help you understand why you’re in pain and make a plan for resolving the issue. We’re here to get you tooth pain relief, fast.
Toothache Pain Relief Tips
The best thing you can do for tooth pain is contact your dentist for an emergency toothache relief appointment.
A toothache home remedy won’t solve the root of the problem, but it can help ease pain in the meantime.
- Take an over-the-counter pain medication
- Gently rinse your mouth with warm saltwater — use about a teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of warm water
- Place a cold compress for 20 minutes at a time
- Drink peppermint tea or place a warm, wet tea bag against the problem tooth.
