Conventional Dentures

This is what most people think of when they hear the word “dentures.” These are, however, much more sophisticated and realistic than most peoples’ images of dentures. This is a fully removable restoration device that is custom-made to fit your mouth and complement your natural smile. Full or complete dentures are used for patients with no natural teeth remaining or existing teeth that cannot be repaired. The complete denture will be placed in your mouth using an adhesive after any remaining teeth are removed and the tissues have healed. This process can take several months but offers flexibility and comprehensive restoration.

The Denture Treatment Process and What to Expect

Your First Appointment (30-45 minutes)

  • Pictures and models will be taken to assess each area in need of restoration. The goals for your smile design will be discussed so we can best communicate your needs to the dental lab.
  • We’ll discuss the material options for your dentures that best suit your lifestyle and cosmetic goals.
  • Impressions will be taken for the fabrication of the denture bases.

Your Second Appointment (20-30 minutes)

  • A framework is tried on to check for size and function.
  • Necessary adjustments are made to the framework and sent back to the dental lab

Your Third Appointment (30-45 minutes)

  • Dr. Chern will temporarily place the framework with the teeth embedded into it.
  • Any final necessary adjustments are made, and pictures are taken to evaluate aesthetics and function.

Your Final Appointment (30 minutes)

  • Dr. Chern will deliver your final denture and give you post-insertion instructions, including what to expect in the first few days of wear. It can take some time to get used to them, so Dr. Chern can guide you through the process.
  • You’ll discuss how to care for your dentures and what to expect from future dental care.

Your Follow-up Appointments (10-15 minutes)

  • Dr. Chern will fine-tune the details in areas that may be sore or tender to ensure your dentures are sized properly and won’t negatively affect your bite or oral health.
  • These appointments are made at 3-5 day intervals until you’ve fully adjusted to your new dentures.
